Nepal contributes very little to global carbon emissions, yet pays a huge price through climate change, floods, landslides, and other disasters. This is deeply unfair. Those who have emitted the most should bear greater responsibility for the damage.

यो घटनालाई केवल “प्राकृतिक विपत्ति” भनेर टारेर हुँदैन। केही गम्भीर प्रश्नहरूको जवाफ खोजिनैपर्छ। यदि अघिल्लो सर्वेक्षणमा यो हिमनदी उच्च जोखिममा रहेको सूचीमा थिएन भने, अचानक यति ठूलो glacier collapse कसरी भयो? जोखिमपूर्ण भनेर पहिचान गरिएका अन्य हिमनदीहरू अझै पनि त्यहीँ छन्, तर यो हिमनदीमा मात्रै यति विनाशकारी घटना किन भयो? प्राकृतिक रूपमा यस्तो हुनै सक्दैन भन्ने होइन। हिमनदीको भित्री संरचना, तापक्रम, पानीको दबाब, चट्टानको stability र अन्य धेरै कारणले अचानक collapse हुन सक्छन्। तर त्यसो हो भने वैज्ञानिकहरूले घटनाअघि र घटनापछि उपलब्ध satellite तथा geological data बाट यसको कारण स्पष्ट पार्नुपर्छ। र यदि कुनै बाह्य हस्तक्षेप वा विस्फोटको आशंका गर्ने प्रमाण छ भने त्यसलाई पनि गम्भीर रूपमा अनुसन्धान गरिनुपर्छ। हामीले कसैलाई दोष लगाउन खोजेका होइनौँ। हामी केवल एउटा प्रश्न सोधिरहेका छौँ— यति ठूलो घटना वास्तवमै प्राकृतिक थियो भने यसको वैज्ञानिक प्रमाण कहाँ छ? सत्य जे होस्, त्यो सार्वजनिक हुनुपर्छ। नेपालका जनताको ज्यान र भविष्यसँग जोडिएको विषय भएकाले यो घटनाको स्वतन्त्र, पारदर्शी र निष्पक्ष अनुसन्धान आवश्यक छ।
