1. As we know users are the weakest link in security, don't be shocked if they literally gave to him or they stood from the pc without logging out and Emmanuel said... I want to check something which he possibly did the changes. 2. Every systems should have a robust access right controls and this story doesn't seem it has. How can one create a mobile account and that's just it.. Who approves the created account to make it function? 3. Application manager, or database administrator should have detected it from the logs. One objective of the above role is to constantly be looking through logs to check anything fishy. Alert could be created to only respond to new creations and changes made within the software by any user. That would have flagged those transactions. 4. They could trace all these to Emmanuel if their system carries an ip on the respective pc that initiated or worked on thatose transactions. And if the sys admin has a static ip for each job group or pc, it will be seen coming from that ip with all changes. 5. Changing of phone number should come with email information to client... That their phone number has been changed per their directive. This can make them act immediately they receive it. Also, an sms should be sent on the old number to inform the holder of the changes. Why will a change be done and not gone for approval in the system? These things happen because Ghanaians are trustworthy and think nothing bad will happen. They easily share password for others to do something for them thinking nothing will go wrong. They stand away from their pc without logging out. They easily allow people to use their system without watching what is actually done. Where I used to work, every week, user security information is sent. I make sure my users are duly informed and sometimes, users are to respond to it to affirm they have read it. You can have the best security system but a user will make it look st**pd

If the account number is being changed there should be a notification going to the old number plus the email attached to the account

Funny thing is, these things have been happening from time. Bank staff steal customers monies all the time; it’s just that he’s the one who has been caught.

So that means the bank had a very loose protection for their customers because they should have known this is possible created a defense mechanism. Eg. alerting or getting auth from the old number or verifying with email.

Control weakness in the systems. Why is the system not designed to send validation code to the phone number to be changed or email of the customer? Changes to information on the customer’s account should be validated by the customer either by phone or email. ABSA bank’s control system is bogus and porous.

Wait, they don’t have authorisers? I thought every account update needs authorisation from the manager or another officer.

I think those passwords and credentials was given to him by the college themselves...If you've worked at the bank before you sometimes they share user id's especially when Collegues are on leave or are sick and unable to show up...

The PC you use is registered to you and your credentials are always linked to that PC. If your credentials are logged in to another PC you and your boss or supervisor will receive an email to give a notification for you to say Yes or No it's actually you. If it's not responded to in 30 secs, you are quickly logged out. This I know happened where I used to work.

The CCTVs are always on and anything done on any account has a time and date posted on it.So the police will just go for the recording and do the matching...as easy as that
