Not true at all, what actually happens is it resets everything basically if one of the kids die new kid appears to replace them as long as no one decides to hug buddy even while he’s dead and sing the song, he will stay dead because that’s the only way to keep him alive

I'm sorry y'all but this is a theory of that I'm going to share with every single short I see if Buddy can basically revamp himself and become normal again after getting his face almost burned off what if it could be the same for kids because as you can tell it is in a show (in the movie to be clear) so that would mean that the kids or anybody who could have died maybe still live but still because they didn't escape the show yet

I feel like theres gonna be a second movie so he will still be alive but it’d make sense if he was dead for the sole fact he can’t survive without the children. Since Freddy escaped there should be no one left for him to heal. That being said he was burnt half way and still okay so he could possibly make it to the tvs and grab more children or the other unicorn could make an appearance. Theres also a factor of all the characters being terrified of buddy so they may help him seeing as they can’t escape the reality they are in hence Freddy escaping and both strappy and mailbox become normal.
