Marabou stork defecate n pass urine on their legs on purpose they perform uro hydrolysis which makes it easier to enhance the evaporative cooling effect, as the faeces n urine dry up they become white that's the white legs will then reflect heat as a thermoregulation mechanism

white legs come about from secretion of urine and feaces and the process is called Uro Hydrosis. uric acid dries off and its chalky rather white in colour. it acts as sun screen and also to kill bacteria in the hooves.
