Jesus never asked you to keep tolerating people who hurt you again and again. If you keep carrying pain just because you think, “I have to love my neighbor,” then maybe you have misunderstood what Jesus meant. Jesus never said that after you forgive someone, you must let that person keep hurting you. Many people think loving your neighbor means forgiving everything, accepting everything, and staying close no matter what happens. But that is exactly how many hearts get wounded again and again. Yes, Jesus taught us to forgive, and to keep forgiving. But He never said you must tolerate everything. He never said you must accept harm without boundaries. Forgiveness does not mean giving someone the right to hurt you again. Forgiveness is meant to set you free from bitterness and bondage. It is not meant to make you open the door again to someone who keeps stepping over your boundaries. If someone hurts you once, twice, three times, and you tell yourself, “I should forgive,” that is right. But if because of that, you stop being watchful, stop discerning, and let that person come back into your life again and again, crossing your boundaries over and over, then you need to be honest: That is not spiritual. That is dangerous. Even the Lord Jesus would distance Himself from those who were hardened, malicious, and constantly rejecting the truth. So yes, forgive. But also set wise boundaries.
