reading the caption, I do firmly believe that Joe and Tobias have a really toxic relationship while Tobias knowing it's really unhealthy still needs Joe or at the very least wishes he was real, in a sense it could be attachment issues or having emotional dependency issues. It could also be DPD (Dependent Personality Disorder) where you need someone and rely on them leading to clingy behavior, in a simple way.. think of Joe as an "Imaginary Friend" of Tobias ever since he was small, they've been together for years and it just becomes normal yet Tobias is self aware and knows Joe isn't real but the connection between them together is already too strong whether he wants Joe to be real or not, it can't happen due to the psychological toll. Joe could also help Tobias either by calming him down, reassuring him, comforting him in ways that makes their relationship stronger but in a confusing way, I could say more but I don't have much else to say.. I really like the artsyle lately! but dude.. get some rest.. take care of yourself and a great day yeah?

Ohh, now I understand their relationship more clearly. Basically what you're trying to say is, well, what I got from the description you've said is that Tobias craves the same validation he imagines with Joe; but can't get it; and when he does get it, he pushes it away and runs away, because he's afraid like you said. So Tobias made Joe for that validation he keeps running from, got it. He wants a relationship unimaginary, but chooses to keep it that way for some reason. Maybe to prevent himself from being hurt again from Adam[probably the source on why he has these intrusive fantasies] or anybody else. [BTW I love your art as always]
