@existentialevan: In a US study of 1,942 married adults, people who had only ever slept with their spouse had a nearly 45% probability of reporting a very high level of relationship stability — compared with only 14% among those with 10 or more lifetime sexual partners.    That does not mean 86% of marriages involving someone with 10 or more partners are unstable, or that sexual history alone determines whether a marriage succeeds. It means this group was far less likely to fall within the study’s highest category of self-reported relationship stability.    Even after accounting for factors including sex, religiosity, and relationship length, greater sexual experience before marriage was associated with lower relationship satisfaction, sexual satisfaction, emotional connection, and stability.    Modern dating tells people that sexual experience prepares them for commitment. This research challenges that promise.    Sexual history is not destiny.
