Muktamar Ke-35 Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) memutuskan Bitcoin sah sebagai aset dan alat transaksi dalam perspektif fikih. Namun, Bitcoin tidak dapat digunakan sebagai mata uang yang berlaku di Indonesia. Dalam pembahasannya, NU juga menggunakan pendekatan yang menempatkan kripto sebagai aset digital, bukan mata uang resmi Indonesia. Namun, keputusan berbeda berlaku apabila Bitcoin digunakan sebagai mata uang. Komisi menyatakan penggunaannya sebagai mata uang haram karena bertentangan dengan Undang-Undang Nomor 7 Tahun 2011 tentang Mata Uang, yang menetapkan rupiah sebagai mata uang yang berlaku di Indonesia. Dengan demikian, keputusan Muktamar NU membedakan secara tegas fungsi Bitcoin sebagai aset digital dan penggunaannya sebagai mata uang.
