it is extremely weird how the persona games have story lines that condemn abusive power dynamics, child exploitation and inappropriate age gap relationships and abuse but then you the player character can get into several relationships throughout the franchise that are explicitly those kind of relationships that the games themselves say are bad so which is it because the franchise is constantly sending mixed messages

Futaba being Ren's surrogate sister is barely the situation at all. First off, no. Sojiro isn't a parent in any way for Ren. Sojiro is a state-mandated guardian that ends up being friendly with Ren in a sort of familial way towards the end of his social link. To add to that, Futaba isn't his kid either. He's still just her guardian, and she doesn't start acting anything like a daughter until the end of their social links. Secondly, Ren and Futaba just don't have a sibling connection like the way people tend to portray it. Sure, they get along. Guess what. Ren gets along with all of his confidants (for the most part), and Futaba does as well. They share a close relationship because of how Ren helped her get over her depression and insecurities, but that isn't strictly a sibling-like bond and it's left very open to the player's interpretation. Last thing I'm gonna bring up is something that I'm noticing some comments already saying; they've only known each other for a few months in-game. I'll evolve on that. From the first time her social link is available, they've known each other for maybe a month at maximum. Let's say it takes another month to finish the social link. Two months. Two months of hanging out with one girl in particular that Ren literally didn't know existed until a few months ago and now they're siblings?
