This isn’t true, the director wanted this to be how it went but the studio didn’t go along with it so instead the film reel itself projected the silhouette of gremlins to simulate them destroying the projector room. The showing happening here was a one off from 2025

when The exorcist was released to theaters my uncle and his friends went to the local theater in Virginia. This theater had an upper tier and a lower tier. when the infamous vomit scene happened they had smuggled in split pea soup and dumped it on the audience below them. I was told it was absolute mayhem.
