I used to work for an IT decontamination company a few years ago. data centers were a big contract for us their generator yards and the ones on their roof tops need to be constantly clean because of how long and how often they run them for. some foremans even explained some details about them a few times. basically yes the current grid cannot sustain the data centers that are being added. the generators pick up the slack but at the cost of fuel and noise pollution

Used to live in NoVA now live in FL and its been the data center capital of the world since the start of the internet. Recently Digital Gateway Prince William just got shut down. It would have been a 2100 arce data center right on the edge of Manassas Battlefield. A National Park and war memorial. The idea of it to me was insane. Happy it failed because when I lived there I loved walking Manassas Battlefield.
