I stayed at a really remote ryokan in Kyushu and it was incredible. they welcomed me with a bowl of matcha and snack, set up my futon for me, and I had traditional breakfast in a private room, it was kind of a hassle to get there (took the bus with all the school kids) but so worth

I’d recommend staying a night by mt Fuji. We stayed a night in Hakone and did a Ryokan there and it was the highlight of our trip. Can’t recommend Hakone enough!
