Thankfully the test on the 707 failed because it was going to try to put additives in jet fuel to make it less likely to burst into flames. The cost would have been billions (in higher jet fuel prices) and would not have made any difference.

They did have a view of the outside specifically the nose/cockpit of the plane at one point but after the passengers were able to watch there deaths play out durning a crash they swiftly took them away. Think it was a crash of the DC-10 in 1979.
