I was instructed not to choose the pointed finials for my fence install for this exact reason. I chose no finials. The deer happily bound over and are on their way.

I certainly think that fences like this should have a solid top bar and not sharp points that can hurt a human or an animal. Too many deer die upside down hanging on a fence…..
