@drewcarrell1: She Invented Monopoly. He Got RICH. She Got $500. . . monopoly's origin story was printed in the box for 50 years: broke man invents game at his kitchen table during the depression, becomes a millionaire. almost none of it is true. a woman named lizzie magie patented the game in 1904, patent 748,626, you can go read it. darrow copied a hand-made board and even copied its spelling mistake, marvin instead of marven. it's still on the board. parker brothers bought her patent for $500, no royalties. her obituary never mentioned monopoly. #business #monopoly #history #boardgames #businessstory
she sold the rights. no obligation to mention her.

Drew Carrell :
Lizzie Magie patented The Landlord's Game on January 5, 1904, US patent 748,626, free to read online, the corner jail is on it. The Darrow kitchen-table story shipped in the box for decades. The Marven/Marvin Gardens typo carried from the hand-copied Atlantic City boards through Darrow's copy to the board sold today, and Parker Brothers apologized to Marven Gardens residents in 1995. Magie got $500 for her patent, no royalties. Most of this surfaced through research in the Anti-Monopoly lawsuit in the 1970s. Look it up.

This is true, but I don’t see the part about Marvin gardens in her board game.
