@daisyfoko: A lot of people will try to undercut your confidence, rattle you, or make you think twice about thinking. Let them inform you. Maybe they’re right and you are in the wrong place. Not because you’re wrong inherently or better than them, but because it’s just not your room 🤷🏼‍♀️ Take their message as intended, but react unexpectedly. Accept it with grace and thank them for saving you the time you might’ve wasted trying to win them over. Move on to the next room and find yourself one step closer to the people you’ll thrive alongside. #smartgirls #socialskills #datingadvice #girlhood #genius

I qualified for Mensa at 12. I relate to this, I got really good at masking.

It’s also important to remember that intelligence is only one of many valuable qualities a person can have. It doesn’t make you superior in the sum of your parts. Kindness, work ethic, thoughtfulness, compassion, curiosity, courage, humor, emotional depth, leadership, being a good listener or good under pressure are all gifts that have nothing to do with IQ. We all have something to give the world. Some people just have their light snuffed out early and spend their lives lashing out without realizing that’s where so much of their dissatisfaction comes from. TLDR: Being smart isn’t everything, but killing any part of what makes you who you are can affect everything.

I was a gifted kid and now a late-diagnosed autistic adult and I wonder SO MUCH about how much of that diagnosis is a "real" autism and how much of it is because of how I was treated as a kid due to my intelligence because I was "weird."

I don't know if I ever qualified for mensa but I was the smart kid in school and I read a lot. My vocabulary was much more advanced than my peers. I was told "stop using big words" a lot. I think that was the beginning.

And people do use ‘being a lawyer’ as a weird backhanded compliment. I got that because I ‘argued well’. Whatever that meant.

I have a different but similar issue but I relate heavily. I've always been fairly smart and I'm also very tall. Everyone has always been competing with me. I rarely get to do anything for fun because the second I show up everyone gets in their ego and suddenly it's the fight of their life. I also have dealt with constant undermining from people's egos and insecurities.

My ex who was in mensa would continuously call me stupid when I challenged something he said that was very easily proven wrong. When I left him, I paid to get myself tested by a psychologist, got a higher IQ score. He has no idea but I feel vindicated.

i didn't expect this to shatter me... my big sister was truly the only person I ever had who didn't tell me that I should change things aboht myself, or that what I was feeling when I was bullied, hurt or abused was my own fault. and after she died 2 weeks after my 14th birthday... i was truly alone in the world. it's been 20 years now and my soul shatters again and again everytime I wonder what I my life might have been like.. or even how I might have learned to feel about who I am as a person... had I actually had a family. im sorry, I know this is a lot and not really the point of what you're sharing. I think today is just one of the days where I miss her too much and wish that my tattered and shattered soul had endured enough pain that the universe would hear it and decide i could finally go and be with her. that ive hurt enough for many lifetimes and that death would come to pick me up and bring me home with her to my jojo. 🖤

High intelligence is another version of neurodivergence....and we have similar social struggles to those with ASD or ADHD. It definitely comes with its own challenges.

Daisy...Thank your dad for me. This is something that has never been said to me, but I needed it. When peoole are constantly floored by my input or disghusted at understanding, shared knowledge, I hide myself. Your husband sees the childlike wonder in you and fosters it to the critical thinking adult. No wonder they're friends. 🖤

Why do men downplay the attractiveness of intelligence in women? It's one of the hottest traits a woman can have. Like yesss 👏👏 tell me about your passions. I wanna hear what issues you care about in the world. Do you have career goals? Ambitions?

I think if you set aside the high IQ portion of this, you still highlight a very important part of a relationship… never settle for someone who dims you, always appreciate the person who appreciates your light

I’m always reminded of how much easier this all would’ve been with a good father. But the MENSA comes from Mom’s side so I did okay lol

saving this for my own daughter. her own dad is MENSA qualified/tested as a kid. she's A LOT like him and we are testing her this year. we've been trying to tell her all of this for years but like at 11 it's hard. she dumba herself down, or rather tries too, to be accepted. it doesn't work. it never will. we know this but she doesn't believe us.

I was punished for being smart. Bullied by adults and kids. Public school did nothing for me because it wasn’t challenging. For this reason I’ve had to always raise my standards.
