I left for college and would never move back, but I'm also childfree. My sister wanted to move to my city with her daughter a few years back, I think to have extra help, but I told her that she needed to make sure she loved it here for her because I wasn't making any promises to stay or provide the kind of childcare she was thinking of. She didn't end up moving.

Left was happy returned to care for aging parents biggest mistake … really depends on the type of town and how close you are to your family

If there’s no family nearby, can you afford childcare for a date night or when both parents are working? We moved away and I LOVE it. But it would be very different if we couldn’t afford the extra help and needed to rely more on family. Also we have a house with a guest room so no one is sleeping in the living room when family comes to visit, which is also something to consider.

As someone who left you’ll never know until you try! You can always go back.

Left, moved back to be closer to family and have more help, did not work out that way, will be moving away in a few years. Also quality of life where we live is not great.

Moved back for family. While it’s nice, we regret our decision to leave where we were most happy.

We’re getting ready to move to be closer to my family. We currently live where my husband grew up and love it but don’t have family support here. With a toddler and another on the way we’re prioritizing the family that can and will help

I have 4 siblings that all have kids and a mom I love all in the same metro area I grew up in. I can’t imagine leaving for almost any reason. Deprive my baby and myself of all that family? There’s little to me that’s more important than family relationships though. My MIL is also in the same area. It would take A LOT for me to want to throw all that time with family away. I literally can’t even think of a reason I’d leave.

Left my hometown at 17 for college, never moved back there. Always wanted to, but with work it wasn’t in the cards. Moved as close as we could (about 1.5-2hrs away) & started our family. My parents left our hometown of 35 years to be closer to us 🥹 we are blessed.

this absolutely depends on the individual people inside your family. we love close to my mom, but don't see her a ton, nor do we receive any help. but if I lived close to my brother or grandma, we would be a super close village. all depends on who you're dealing with

my husband and I had the opportunity (twice) to move before we had kids. we didn't want to have kids away from our families. maybe when the kids are older, but those early years you need support.
I also knew our families would be helpful.

Moved before kids and had the time of my life for 15 years. When my child turned one we moved back and don’t regret it a bit. Total different lens with kids. Will I retire here? I hope not. But it’s worth having my kids grow up with family and all our friends

We left but 12 years into having kids! I’m mad about it! I love where we are, but I wish where ai grew up didn’t change so much. My parents fly in all the time, my sister moved here too.

currently about to leave. and my husbands family is not close they live in Brazil. mine is in the current state only. it'll be hard im sure but we live in HCL state that's basically become impossible to make it as a family of 4, so we gotta go sadly and even if we were to come bakc it would be this NE state due to cost and low opportunities/ fun for our kids.
