I used to write a lot but when I went to university to study literature, analysing and reading the work of these incredible authors created a kind of dichotomous way of thinking in me: if I can’t be one of the greatest, why would I even try? Ironically, that mindset caused me to stop writing altogether, even though we know that the more we practise, the better we become. I just can’t seem to get back to the state I was in before

I write essays, and personal articles on substack but my issue is that I write like I think. in fragments, my friend who helps me critique my writings complain that my sentences are abrupt 😭

I feel like the more I wrote over the years. The more aware I became of how bad I am at it. Like my sentences are subpar. And I don’t know enough about grammer. It’s so frustrating.

My problem is that I used to have so many ideas of stories I wanted to write, characters, turns of phrase etc. but now in my 30s I don’t have this anymore. I think it’s from using all my energy working.

Wonderfully sound advice. I needed this encouragement. I used to write so much as a child, teenager and throughout my 20's but somehow I fell off in my 30's. Now in my 40's I'm writing again, rediscovering the joy it brought me and finding all the great thoughts and stories floating around in my head. Thank you for this video ❤️
