@newyorkcitymarathon: At the end of 2007, Meb Keflezighi could barely walk. A devastating pelvic stress fracture sustained during the 2007 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials sidelined him for months. He was also grieving. On the same day he suffered the injury, his friend Ryan Shay collapsed and died from a sudden cardiac arrhythmia at the same race in Central Park. Mentally, physically, and emotionally, Keflezighi struggled. Yet within 20 months, he went from being unable to walk to winning the 2009 New York City Marathon, becoming the first American to claim the title since 1982. On the 22nd anniversary of Keflezighi's silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games, we're reminded that "dreams do become reality, they just sometimes take a little bit longer."
