They are equal. Thats never been in question. Nothing to do with ability or equality. God created Eve to be a helpmate. One of the roles for Adam is to lead his household. That means his wife, Eve, is to submit to his leadership. Now, Adam needs to be a ma worth submitting to. And if it’s in the Bible, it’s in direct alignment with Gods character.

Actually the first commentary we get on marriage is “this is why a man should leave his parents and cling to his wife” - so actually the first commentary is about husbands needing their wives. I don’t know why this isn’t highlighted more. Clinging to your wife in the Hebrew is the opposite of any sort of authority language. It is equality language.

as stupid as this sounds.... i had never thought of it this way before. i had always viewed God's reaction to the fall as Him cursing humans but now i see its really Him being like "listen now that yall f***ed up this is what is going to result from that" like more of a forecast. He's not speaking it into being, He's giving a heads up on what humanity is going to do to itself. so thank you for giving your perspective and opening my eyes to that

So when the Bible commands something it’s actually not commanding it? I’m really lost on how you came to this conclusion and your reasoning for it, God gave us a command, “wives submit to your husbands… husbands love your wives as Christ loves the church…” seems pretty cut and dry to me

It is about becoming one flesh with your wife, men are called to be the spiritual leader of the house, but that does not make women subservient to them, in fact the Greek word in Genisis that was translated to helper when describing the wife actually more aligns with a close, strong, ally. Place your emphasis on following Jesus, not religion, God Bless.

This is my own personal interpretation… Eve isn’t jealous. She authentically wants to be near Adam and wants him to help create extensions of themselves in the form of a family and community. She wants what they had back in the garden which was regenerative systems. Adam now wants the corruption of control but doesn’t want to actually love his bride.

“Jesus enters the sin and heals.” This makes me think of a quote attributed to Rumi: The wound is the place where the light enters you. This makes me meditate on the fact that I never feel God more strongly than when my heart and soul feels wounded, like the pain creates the space for God’s light to enter, or perhaps for me to seek and see it most clearly.

I’m genuinely open and listened to the whole video, but I’m stuck on what the final conclusion is. We’re not supposed to follow Gods command of the husband will rule over the wife? I totally understand your explanation about how it wasn’t His plan and it was only implemented after sin, yet He still said it…. God saw the sin and said okay, new rules. How could that rule not stand? The rule was placed for the fallen world, which we live in, and cannot reverse. We cannot reverse the NATURE of our world and our fundamental human flaws. I absolutely agree we strive to, but if you succeed one time in not committing a sin, doesn’t mean you’ve changed the nature of the fallen world.

Im not saying a woman has to be subservient, but if were being Biblical this is the literal FIRST mention of a woman in the Bible: The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” A HELPER suitable for him.
