Physical processes that cause disasters are often the same ones that make the planet habitable. Tectonic plate movements cause destructive earthquakes, but they also regulate Earth's temperature and recycle nutrients essential for life. Rain systems bring vital water, but can produce devastating storms. What do I mean by this? These disasters are not caused by God, but by nature. Nature is an autonomous process created by God that works on its own. Think of it as a Chinese robot (Nature) created by a Chinese company (God). You can't blame the company for all the damage the robot causes because the robot works on its own. One of the arguments that also arises is that without evil, there would be no good. If life as we know it were all good and no evil, what would heaven be? How would we experience good if we didn't experience evil first? We wouldn't know the concept of happiness without first experiencing sadness or anger. (That's without even considering that life is considered a test and paradise the reward. John Hick suggests the universe is not designed to be a frictionless paradise, but an environment for moral growth. Hardship and danger force humanity to develop compassion, resilience, selflessness, and cooperation.)
