I always tilt the tent peg more towards me as I believe it would take more effort to pull it out of the ground rather than straight down

I’ve been wild camping for many years, and most of the time I’ve had to pitch on harder terrain. You really don’t need a drill… the secret is simply buying long pegs and using a hammer. The shape of the peg also makes a difference. Y-shaped pegs work better in softer earth, while nail-style pegs are more suitable for rocky or hard ground. Just get some good, long pegs and you’ll be fine.
