PSYCHOLOGY IS NOT YOUR PERSONAL DIARY. One thing happened to you, and suddenly you have a theory about women, men, relationships, success, trauma, intelligence, motivation, or human nature. A personal experience can produce insight, teach you a lesson, or change your life. But it does not automatically produce a psychological principle. Psychology looks for patterns. Repeated behaviour. Repeated responses. Recurring cognitive processes. Consistent outcomes. Evidence that survives examination across different people, circumstances, and populations. Your experience is data about your experience. It becomes evidence for a broader psychological claim only when it survives a much higher standard of investigation. Someone goes through one bad relationship and declares, “People are like this.” Someone develops a personal philosophy and presents it as neuroscience. No. These may be valuable, but they are not scientific evidence. For thousands of years, human beings have questioned why we think, behave, desire, fear, cooperate, compete, suffer, and seek meaning. Modern psychology gave that ancient inquiry a systematic scientific framework. And science has another uncomfortable feature: it permits you to be wrong. A psychological claim must be open to testing, criticism, revision, and replication. If better evidence overturns it, the claim must change. I respect your experience. I do not automatically accept your conclusion. Your story is yours. A pattern belongs to evidence. A principle must survive scrutiny. Because the moment we turn every personal experience into a universal law, we stop trying to understand human beings and start projecting ourselves onto them. #Psychology #Neuroscience #CriticalThinking #ScientificThinking #PsychologyOfGrowth
