Every time I think I’m failing as a mother I remember I would be an amazing dad and pull my shit together and keep trucking cause that’s what we do as moms but I also have made it a point to have do nothing days cause as my daughter gets older and more independent I don’t feel the overwhelming need to do everything

This is exactly what all of us are trying so hard to get people to understand about this case. We as mothers feel like we don't have the option to fail, and trying so hard to be the person everyone on her family needs as we drown silently into our own mental anguish. People expect mothers to just suck it up because in most families she's the rock that holds it all together! She's overwhelmed and overlooked as being someone that could use support and help. I know I'm a mom, and I dealt with severe PPD!

And maybe that is why so many women have watched this trial from front to back because we can all relate to that lady in the courtroom. We’ve been there at one point of your life or another

There comes a time in every Mother’s life when her partner should stop asking “are you okay”… they’re asking BECAUSE they’re looking at her and seeing she’s not. They need to just STEP UP & IN until she is actually okay.

And at what point do we stop forcing women to carry IT ALL. When are the fathers' contributions going to be scrutinized to the level we scrutinize mothers? When do the dads take ownership of supporting their wives and taking care of their children???

ABSOLUTLEY, undoubtedly… the most beautiful beautiful realization. This has been my hope through the this entire case…. More awareness. More healing, more.. just more.. of less pressure on ourselves, on less judgement of ourselves, of who we are in all the roles…

I was only like that when I was in an abusive marriage. Everything else had to be absolutely perfect. I obsessed over every nap, every scheduled moment, the shape of my baby’s head, etc.

This case scares me because I see that as extended family, friends, colleagues and neighbors we are only able to help to the level the husband facilitates and allows.

My daughters were 18 mo apart. I was lucky to stay home. That didn’t change the post partum depression with my second, the lack of support, the constant pressure to be perfect for everyone else. When we inevitably got divorced, because he cheated among other reason, I still struggled with trying to do everything and be perfect for everyone. There is so much pressure on women for so many reasons. How do we make it better?

Society needs to change a lot. So much of why women don’t speak up is a fear of losing their children.

This case has made me have very raw and honest conversations with my teenage boys about “Mental Load” and how mothers disproportionately are expected to carry it all, and ways that in the future they can support their spouses.

I had my son at 27 weeks. He spent 87 days in the NICU—a very stressful time for my husband and I. 2 months after our baby came home my husband had a massive heart attack in our bedroom while I held our 5 month old son. I was back at work 2 weeks later navigating a high stress job and a preemie. I have been in this journey for over 7 years and it recently all caught up with me. I am competent and resilient and that’s what everyone expects, but right now, I just want to be soft and taken care of. Sending love to all the moms who make it work, to those that struggle, and those in between 💜

Reading this felt as if someone read my mind for the past 20 years! My oldest son turned 18 years old this year and graduated high school which makes me so proud, and with all the congrats from family and friends telling me, "He couldn't have done it without you" finally made me cave in and realize how fast time flies when you are in a complete daze doing everything and making sure everyone around you is surviving while you are in survival mode. I finally had the knowledge and strength to ask for help, and now I always say to myself why did I wait so long. ❤️🩹

This resonates with me so much. My husband traveled for a living and when he’d get home, when the kids were very small, I’d be desperate for some sleep and nervous system recovery, I’d beg him to help me. He’d do some half assed shit, usually making things even harder for me. When I’d fall apart he would be surprised, and say I looked like I was doing great so how was he to know I wasn’t doing okay. If only he’d listen and believe me before he got home, when I’d tell him that I wasn’t okay and plead with him to do certain specific things that I needed, when he got home. When he’d leave again for work, I’d realize that i was glad for him to leave because all he did was disrupt any kind of schedules or routines I had, and make my life so much harder.

It’s honestly crazy to me how many people, especially women, think that struggling with a PP-related illness means you just stop being a mother and doing normal mom thing. It’s not like we’re curled up in bed ignoring our children 24/7.

Beautiful video…thank you for pointing this out. It’s just another layer of patriarchal programming that says as women we must carry it all and look good doing it. Yes, there’s a myriad reasons for it, but it all comes down to some kind of trauma each woman is dealing with internally…consciously or not…and let’s not forget…the trauma of motherhood itself. We are literally giving form to new life…through our own bodies…breaking ourselves open to birth this new life that is then ours to feed and nurture. We act like it’s a simple process like cleaning a stove. It’s huge! Being a woman in today’s world brings its own set of challenges and yes, trauma. When there’s a support group, a village to unconditionally help…motherhood becomes the gift it can be. Let’s continue to expand our consciousness until we get there.🥰
