Yeah, but ya still have rent to pay. Plus house values tend to rise too. My example: paid £275k in 2017, worth now £400k. Rent during that time would’ve been £151k £1400 per month). So instead of pissing away that £151k on someone rises mortgage, I have a £400k house with only £100k left on the mortgage. I mean, I’d defo rather have the security of a home that’s mine.

Most people are likely happy that they are safe in their house that they’ve paid for. It’s not always about maximising every penny.

If you put £400k on gold 6 months ago you’d be down £100k. Not as safe as you think. Very volatile at the moment.

🤔Once of been threatened with redundancy twice in the last ten years, paying off my mortgage has given me a great feeling & reassurance. If I get made redundant now, I just need any old job to keep me ticking over, until something better comes along☺️

This bloke has 20/20 hindsight. There's no guarantee the asset you pick to invest in goes up. A huge amount of gold gets discovered, twice the amount currently known and the price drops through the floor. You've now lost half you house...

All these clever wealth posts seem to assume that we can borrow huge sums of money for free, and never have to pay them back.

Ah. But what if they put £150k in and it lost £100k. It’s high risk and you’re putting your house on it at 50-60 years of age when you’re mortgage free.
