Realistically nightfuries cannot, toothless can because he gets hand fed by hiccup. Other nightfuries would starve because the snow isn’t good camouflage for them and therefore their prey can see them better to get away

survive in the cold and live in the cold are 2 different things. He lived with Hiccup during that time. He got him all the food and Toothless could stay in a house. When they escaped from grimmel they had limited resources and relied more on the dragons for hunting and supporting everyone.

I like y'all theories but I think the writers just fcked up you know? They also said that, supposingly, Nightfury can't fly long distances but somewhere in a book it says they can fly longer than any other dragon because of their large wings.

мне кажется, гриммель сам не знает многого о ночных фуриях, он лишь хвастается, что мол он перебил всех ночных фурий, это лишь клеймо его гордыни, да, возможно, большинство он и перебил, но это не отменяет того, что ночные фурии все еще остались, не может быть такого, что самых скрытных и загадочных существ смог перебить лишь один человек
