I couldn't decide whether I wanted this video to be about the glaze test or the line blend technique, and trying to cover both means that I've really only touched the surface of both topics. With regards to the stain in the glaze: I don't believe this stain is encapsulated (the supplier doesn't specify that it is), so it's more prone to separating out into its oxides. If it was encapsulated, it probably would go grey at lower percentages. You can get grey using oxides yourself if you get the ratio right though, and I'm tempted to give that a test next. With regards to the line blend, I dip the ends of the line first (0% and 2% here), then combine them equally to get a mix that's the midpoint of the two (1%). I can then dip a tile in that, before splitting the 1% equally between two containers and putting an equal amount of each end mix (0% to make 0.5%, and 2% to make 1.5%). It seems more complicated than it is, but it keeps glaze mixing and glaze waste to a minimum. The dipping container makes it even more efficient! #glazetest #slipcast #glaze #pottery #ceramics
