RhondaGC :
I’ve never heard this called “dippy eggs and soldiers” before. Why are they Brits so good at naming things?

Very common in the UK but not the US. As a Brit in the USA for forty years my mum will still make these for me sometimes. Never too old for dippy eggs and soldiers. Our egg cups have legs. 😂

I’m 58 now. When I was Carter’s age, I would stay at my Nana’s house over the weekend. She came to the US from The Midlands in 1916. On Sunday mornings, she’d make me eggs & soldiers, but with an english muffin. Half had butter and was cut into soldiers. The other half had butter and jam & wasn’t cut. Thank you, Carter, for bringing back that happy memory! ❤️

Carter I gotta know, what do you do with the rest of the egg when you’re done with your soldiers?

In Philadelphia, where I'm from, dippy eggs are fried eggs over very easy, giving you a similar yolk texture to dip your toast and scrapple into.

Him explaining why you put them in cold water is like a young Alton brown explaining the chemistry behind different foods. I love it.
