30+ years in dentistry that’s a lot of money paid to pay my salary. Who is going to pay for my salary if you expect free dentistry ? Brushing and flossing and a decent diet don’t cost a ton of money last I checked

Do I believe dental is a joke? Absolutely. Do we need better dental care? Absolutely. Should it be part of health insurance? Absolutely. Free? No. Nothing is free.

We need to start attacking these low paying insurance companies for not paying the dentists! Insurance companies do everything in their power to pay dentists Pennie’s. My office had to stop taking insurance bc they would pay out less than what the hygienist is paid an hr 🤦🏽♀️for a full cleaning!

Fun fact for those who go to dentists that are in network with your insurance. The price isn’t set by the dentist, it’s set by your insurance company. They present a contract with prices and the dentist either signs it or doesn’t. They very rarely negotiate. So insurance chooses the price as well as how much they are going to pay. The issue is they haven’t raised their reimbursement rates and yearly maxes meaningfully in 20-30 years to keep up with inflation.

This is why we stress the importance of going to get your teeth cleaned every 6 months. We can catch things early before they get out of hand. Catching a cavity early is cheaper than letting everything go.

Registered Dental Hygienist here, in school they teach us why dental should be covered under medical and why we are advocating for it all the time to be covered under medical. The mouth and your overall health are connected and we don’t understand why these insurance companies don’t see that.

15 years in Dentistry and I say everyday it should be covered under medical. With that, I 10/10 don’t EVER recommend Aspen Dental, they may accept your insurance and make it “cheaper” but they will charge you for every single little thing, they are corporate so they won’t be there for your long term, and they have a high turnover rate as well. Go find you a private practice office that you would get better quality care and work! Aspen uses cheap labs to cut costs so where is seems cheaper now you’ll be replacing dentures and triple spending…

are you getting implants? if not why so many bone grafts? ask about retro fitting or relining the 1st set of dentures to fit your mouth after the healing phase.
