@redo_love: Detachment is a behavior, and every behavior comes from a feeling. The feeling you'd need in order to actually detach is indifference — when you genuinely don't care, detaching is easy. So telling someone with attachment issues to "just detach" is asking them to perform something they don't feel. And like any performance that isn't truly felt, it shows itself — in overacting, in the fact that you can't hold it for long. Performance never lasts, and pretty quickly it turns into self-sabotage. You can't force the behavior when you don't have the feeling underneath it.
