For all the moms struggling with this, go look up adults with arrested development and then realize you’re doing an amazing job 😂

So grateful all three of my sons are happily married, gainfully employed, and financially secure. Wonderful daughters in law. Plus grandchildren!!! We parented via “benign neglect” a parenting philosophy that is harder than it sounds! 😁

My oldest is 8. We practice cooking together and do stuff around the house together so she knows how to do the things I didn’t. Tell me why I get sad when she gets up and makes her own eggs for breakfast when I’m the one who taught her?? lol.

my 24 y/o daughter was struggling with the fact that her 24 y/o boyfriend doesn't know how to actually shop for groceries, cook, clean properly. I had to remind her that not everyone grows up in a home that prepares them to be an independent adult and all those chores that she hated as a kid is what taught her to be an independent adult. Then i told her she needs to be less judgmental and teach him these things so that he can be a better partner but even if things don't work out then he'll be better off for having met her.

lol I just told my son this. I tried to raise a honest, hardworking, respectful, responsible man. Then he became one and doesn’t need me anymore. Proud/sad

And why is that so difficult for me to comprehend? I’m apologizing all the time for overstepping. 😭

Seriously, no one warned me of this side effect! 😥 But I adore when my daughters now call me for random things like family recipes or to spill all the T in their co-workers crazy lives! 😉 Now I just need to figure something comparable to draw in my sons....

I’m 27 and a couple months ago, I got a flat tire that needed to be fully replaced. Handled it myself (with a friend’s help) and told my parents the next weekend. My dad was proud of me but also wounded that I hadn’t called him 🤣💀

As a therapist who was seen failure to thrive…please high five yourself. But also as a therapist who calls her mom 24/7. It’s never ending. 😅

Facts!! I don’t think I understood the fine print. 😅 She’s doing great but what do you mean you’re making your own appointments and handling your life?

Looking back critically, I am shocked at how much information and or training isnt done before. Like they just handed me a kid, said congrats and bounced. I had never held a baby prior to that moment. The amount, or lack there of, training given would be illegal if it was at any job site.

This is what we want, for them to spread their wings and fly. But it also means they fly away from us. Bittersweet. We can be proud and sad at the same time

All 3 of my kids joined the military. Never realized that would make them all live somewhere else. Most likely forever.

My kids are grown and I had an employee with littles say ‘Please tell me life gets easier once they are grown up.’ I replied ‘Girl, I am gonna need to hold your hand while I say this, it just gets different and you also just become their cheerleader that prays a lot’. Mind you I have 3 lovely adult kids who are successful but that momma bear instinct never has went away. I just had to become quieter unless they ask for advice.

Well, having an independent kid is better than a dependent adult. My bf had to unfortunately help raise me because I didn’t know how to be responsible, cook, or clean. :/
