almost stopped going to D&D at the library, but my sister strenuously encouraged me not to give it up. got invited to an engagement party for two great people within a year. -oh and ‘being a regular’ meant showing up to D&D sessions that lasted two hours, every three weeks

you extroverts simply do not understand how hard it is for introverted/shy people to make friends. i went to a dance class every week for 4 years, made 0 friends i'd see outside of dance events.

This did the opposite for me once 😭. The chipotle workers started HATING me once I became a regular. I'm always nice, if a bit robotic now, say pls and thank you they just hate my burrito order (3 scoops rice, 2 beans, reg steak, sour cream, and cheese) I think it was the rice.

I heard someone say, if you respond to the warmth of strangers, then also lead with warmth. Instead of assuming the person will find you off putting, which ends up being a self fulfilling prophecy because then you come off as cold.

I love being a regular!!! I have a regular game night, tennis night, gym days/times, and 2 regular bars now. All different people but now they’re all my friends!!

I just moved to my new place and I'm trying to make friends, so I keep on going to the library. But it's such a busy area that the classes fill up within minutes of registration opening. I feel like I'm going to have to sit outside the meeting room and just wait for people to leave🤣

I'm stuck in a Catch 22 scenario because I didn't get with groups or neighbors during high school, so I come to groups awkward. Even if I find clubs, visit places....my social skills never develop past acquaintance level, and I haven't met a solid group or person to be closer friends with. I'm making more small talk as an adult, but I don't expect it to go further and I'm emotionally unprepared if it does. It took me a while not to expect anything spectacular from a new encounter, when before I got mad at why nothing worked for me.

how to be a regular online, or build a regular online group? specifically when it's not for general friend making but like you know that you will be traveling a bunch and just want to provide an online third space where your can take people to be regulars?

Having a regular bar really changed my life. Once a week, 5pm. Bars maybe aren’t always the best place to meet friends but if you find a friendly place it can give you a great sense of belonging

I work at a little wine bar, and understandably not everyone should be a regular at a bar, but I have to say I definitely enjoy my regular customers.
