@meghannmcuniff: Jurors indicated skepticism in their questions to the final witness in Duane "Keffe D" Davis' trial over Tupac Shakur's 1996 shooting. The witness was Dan Long, a retired Las Vegas police detective assigned to investigate Shakur's murder in 2004. Davis' lawyer Michael Sanft called him as the final defense witness on Thursday (August 27, day 9). Before he testified, two retired Las Vegas police officer testified they saw a cream-colored Cadillac at Suge Knight's home before the shooting, which matches the description of the car the shooter was in. Judge Carli Kierny in Nevada's 8th Judicial District allows jurors to submit questions for witnesses. She asked Long five questions on their behalf. I’m particularly surprised she allowed the last one, which is basically asking if Davis is actually guilty or not. They included: "Were you able to interview everyone who occupied the cream or white Cadillac, or is alleged?" "No, I tried to talk to Big Gray, DeAndre Smith. He died that same year. Orlando died in 1998 in a shootout at a car wash, and Mr. Brown died in, I believe, it was 2015." "Did you ever interview Suge Knight about the shooting during that during the interview process?" "I tried. I had a partner that had played football with him and knew him very very well, and I was complaining that I could never even talk to Suge on the phone. So my partner says, "Oh, I can make a phone call. We can have it right now. And he made a phone call, talked to Suge and Suge hung up on it." "Were you able to verify and confirm Mr. Davis was actually in the white Cadillac the night of Tupac's murder?" "By Mr. Davis telling me that he was in a white Cadillac on the night of the murder, and that the shooting came from that same white Cadillac." Davis' lawyer Michael Sanft followed up: "But no actual facts outside of what Mr. Davis told you?" "No." Attorneys will give closing arguments on Monday (August 31, day 10). #law #crime #court
