as a gay man, I think this largely stems from the mindset that's drilled into boys at such a young age that "feelings are for girls, you shouldn't care about them" so boys grow up to focus on the physical aspects. My theory is supported by the fact that most "feminine" guys I know are not afraid to admit they want love and someone sweet and not just an object to pull around. I WILL admit that there are a lot more men that don't care about personality and only body, but it is important to remember there are a lot exceptions always, there are women that only want men for their bodies, there are men who care about personality.

When I was in 4th grade there was this new kid who would smack the girls butts and no adult did anything ever. Like genuinely nothing. But then there was a huge fight where he got shoved and then this guy was running and stomped on his head. All the girls watching cheered when it happened.

Literally same thing but the entire school did it, the only things that weren’t personality traits were ‚don‘t smoke or drink‘ which came from guys who smoked and drank themselves tho 😭

This reminds me of 5th grade when a boy asked me out & I asked him why he liked me & he said "because you're hot". So I said no to him & that kind of thinking at that age made me uncomfortable

There was a time when my classmate boy would blow like their “hot breath” idk how to explain it but basically breathe out in front of my face but like not the cold one. It was annoying as HECK but my teacher just told me he probably had a crush on me. (I switched places btw)

The comments here are proving that it was good for the teacher to ask that question, especially if it's part of SEL. Kids hearing other people's answer can be an eye opener for them and even steer them away from bad relationships. There may be qualities that they never even considered and now will.

I’ve come to the conclusion that one of the reasons this happens is because the way society treats and raises girls already puts a certain personality to them, already teaches us how to treat others and love them. So when a guy is asked to imagine his future partner the personality is listed like some pre loaded expectation so they feel comfortable only mentioning her looks as that is the variable that changes between us girls. However when girls are asked for our type in boys we can’t imagine his looks first because what is more important is listing a kind of personality since there is not a socially accepted way for a man to act. Instead they can be anything under the sun with little to no consequences.
