Emergency services were activated at 14:30 near Agioi Anargyroi after three vessels encountered severe turbulence, leaving two completely destroyed on the rocks. A multi-agency air and sea operation rescued five survivors, including two women airlifted to Famagusta General Hospital. A Greek Cypriot man died after becoming trapped in the wreckage. The accident occurred during historic summer storms that weather trackers say could make this the rainiest August in Cyprus since records began in 1902.
