@preschoolvibes: Here are four of my favorite songs from the Handwriting Without Tears Get Set for School album. You can find all of them on YouTube. Before we ever start writing letters, I teach the basic language we’ll use all year. Letters are made with big lines, little lines, big curves, and little curves. Tap Tap Tap uses two big lines. Mat Man teaches children how to build a person using those same lines and curves. Wood Piece Pokey helps them learn and recall the names of all four pieces. Where Do You Start Your Letters? reinforces one of our biggest handwriting rules: start at the top. I also teach students that the Handwriting Without Tears box is for capital letters, while lowercase letters sit on the two lines and can be tall, small, or fall letters. These songs make that language familiar before we ever begin our letter of the week.
