NOAA defines solar elevation as the angle above the horizon and azimuth clockwise from north.On that flat map, the horizontal distances from the observers to the point beneath the Sun work out to about: Oxford: 3,109 miles Candlestick Park: 5,902 miles For a Sun height of miles, the predicted elevation is θ = tan⁻¹(h/d) So the flat-Earth model predicts: Oxford PA 52.1° San Francisco 34.1° Candlestick Park: 5,902 miles For a Sun height h= 4000 miles predicted elevation is Oxford, PA 52.1° globe 49.4° flat earth Candlestick Park, CA 34.1° globe 15.8 Flatearth Oxford comes fairly close, but San Francisco is off by about 18°.
