Existing human rights laws mean people can make claims to stay in the UK based on the need to remain with family members who are already here. The Immigration & Asylum Bill will tighten the definition of 'family' - focusing claims on immediate family members. Claims can be limited to immediate family members, such as spouses, partners, parents and dependent children.
