@don.j0243: #2pac This video is Afeni Shakur - Tupac's mother - and it's actually 2 different interviews edited together into one viral clip. The first 50 seconds are from right after he died, the last minute is from 6 years later. 1. Who is she Afeni Shakur, born Alice Faye Williams, was a former Black Panther, activist, and Tupac's mother. The film will document Tupac as a child with his parents - Afeni Shakur who was a member of the well known Black Panther's organization. 2. The first part - bandana, white shirt This is the famous ABC "Prime Time Live" interview from early 1997, a few months after Tupac died. Date / Location: Filmed in late 1996 / early 1997 after the family moved back to Georgia. Afeni was living outside Atlanta at the time. The hospital footage they cut in is University Medical Center, 1800 W Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas - where Tupac died. What she's saying in your transcript: This is the moment she describes making the decision to stop resuscitation. The coroner's report says: According to the coroner's report, it was Tupac's mother Afeni who made the decision not to revive her son She explains it on camera: that Tupac had stopped breathing three times and they had revived him three times And: Afeni Shakur explained her decision to ABC's "Prime Time Live." "I really felt it was important for Tupac," she said, "who fought so hard, to have a free spirit." The other lines in your clip come from that same interview: "It's a gift given to me... his music was a gift given to the world... Every black mother tells her male child that you have to try against all odds to survive the statistics that say that by 25 you will be dead in prison or on drugs." Tupac was 25 when he was pronounced dead at 4:03 PM on Friday, September 13, 1996. 3. The second part - red sweater, Tupac: Resurrection poster That's from 2003. Date / Location: Press junket for the documentary Tupac: Resurrection in Hollywood. The film was made in collaboration with his mother and premiered at the Cinerama Dome Theater on November 4, 2003 in Hollywood, California. The documentary uses actual sound bites from Tupac's interviews and Afeni executive-produced it. In that era she did dozens of interviews in that same red outfit talking about: "My son was a magic person... he made our whole lives shine... I can't compare him to Malcolm or to Martin except to say that they all had valuable lives." This edit stitches the 1997 grief interview and the 2003 legacy interview together, which is why her look and the background change so suddenly. Afeni passed away on May 2, 2016, but that 1997 decision to let him go is still the most quoted moment she ever gave about his death.

I’m sorry, but I truly believe Afeni should have fought for Tupac until the very end. She should never have told the doctors to stop resuscitating him. My uncle was in a horrific car accident. He had a severe head injury, massive chest trauma, and multiple internal injuries. He was in the ICU for a month and had to be resuscitated several times. His mother never gave up on him or asked the doctors to stop. He was young, fought for his life, and eventually recovered. That’s why I can’t understand Afeni’s decision after only six days. Tupac had regained consciousness, spoken, and was still fighting. I believe he deserved more time. I know this is a very sensitive subject, and I’m sorry if my words sound harsh, but this is honestly how I feel. ❤️
