I’m so glad this is back on my timeline. Because one of my main sticking points is this: why in the world did she have to directly text her sister in law for money when she was out of money in Florida?? I know she’s a close friend… but you should be asking your HUSBAND to handle it especially if it means asking his sister for money, get the money to you whatever while you are driving busy etc. to me it suggests one or many of the following: she couldn’t get ahold of him and often can’t because he is never where he says he is or ignores her totally when with girlfriends even when she’s in trouble. B: she doesn’t think he can handle such a task because he probably can’t. C: she isn’t as close to him as she constantly suggests every time he comes up in the book.

I think she’s resigned to it, and what she gets out of it all is not being alone or being abandoned— both of which are fates worse than death for people with her personality. I do hope it all feels worth it to her, because it looks like she’s made a terrible bargain from the outside.

I felt she was trying to get out in front of assumptions- it also brings up- how differently would people’s takes be if Roya looked more like Lindy? Would people assume the same things about Aham and his motivations if Roya was in a big body? I think she shared a lot of difficult realities about herself that get overlooked. That she gets depressed to the point she wont shower. That she can be asexual or sexually repressed. That she struggles with paying her bills or having any sort of routine or managing responsibility. There are brutal confessions in there and she makes them earnestly maybe in order to show this relationship does in fact support her as a human. It’s not a conventional relationship and I would honestly like to see the women of this relationship run off together but if it works for her 🤷♀️. Also I am so confused where people got the info that Roya and Aham both live off Lindy? I thought they both had careers in the arts?

The first half, I was hopeful. I really thought she was setting up how she fell in love with Roya- especially in the framework of the way that Lindy feels loved and supported by her female friends… BUT she didn’t do that. It just made me so sad.

I was hoping I’d get insight on what a non-traditional relationship is like and how she came to accept it. All we got was that Aham has none of the redeeming qualities she claims he does and him & Roya are both shady as hell for starting this behind her back. I just hate that she seems to hate herself enough to think she should accept this.

If you didn’t listen to the audiobook, she has voice notes from her roadtrip that really showed her personality more especially without her romantic relationship. It mostly made me really sad that she’s with such a shitty guy.
