jellybeankid :

Jesus probably did exist. But his name wasn't Jesus and he was almost certainly dark skinned. And almost everything written about him in the Bible was made up centuries later by people who obviously never met him. Jesus didn't preach about organized religion at all - he said that God was to be found within the individual. So, no need for churches, priests, special commandments, hell etc etc. All that was added as a cheap way to control the masses - and it proved hugely successful until educational standards improved and rational scientific thinking largely replaced organized religion.
