I need your thoughts on this. As a relationship coach, this comes up a lot with clients, and usually is a core component of a growing disconnection. But even on my own page, where 98% of my content is about our love, communication, support, challenges, and emotional growth, the number 1 question we always get asked about is “how intimacy works”. It’s a two-fold problem because it tells us 1. That the primary assumption made about poly or throuple dynamics is that it’s all about the physical. And 2. That people are so starved and curious for novelty in their own physical relationships that it’s the only question they care to ask about. You’ll notice that I rarely address these questions for a reason, but sadly, even when I do speak very vaguely about it, those are the ones that go viral- meaning that’s what more people want to hear about, thus perpetuating the stereotype of number 1. As a coach and educator, of course I want to get in front of as many people as possible to break this stereotype, but I also want to help remove the stigma surrounding even talking about intimacy, because it’s what’s made so many disconnected or repressed in the first place. So what do you think? Should I talk more on this subject and just deal with a negative viral component, or should I stick to what I’ve primarily built this page on, which is the more non physical components of making polyamorous relationships work? I don’t want to ignore the intimacy component, because it’s a healthy piece for any relationship, but I also have to be careful of how it’s presented.
