The wound care one is the part I want people to actually take away. Smack et al, JAMA 1996, 922 patients: plain white petrolatum matched bacitracin ointment on infection, and had zero allergic contact dermatitis versus four in the bacitracin group. Bacitracin was the American Contact Dermatitis Society's Allergen of the Year in 2003 and neomycin in 2010. For a clean cut, wash it, plain petrolatum, cover it. Skip the Neosporin!! Anything that looks infected goes to an actual doctor.
