But earlier this year the Navy quietly disclosed those Trump Class ships were getting a nuclear powered upgrade among several other things (because that’s what Trump wanted). Now, the Congressional Budget Office crunched the numbers and discovered the cost estimates to build these Trump Class ships in the so-called “Golden Fleet” has skyrocketed. For just 1 Trump Class ship, the Navy can purchase 5 of the current destroyers. This video explains the price tag taxpayers will be on the hook for and explains some of the other factors that may increase these costs even further. Can we afford this while the country is in $40 trillion of debt? Or, can we afford not to have them?

I work for the navy: we usually name vessel classes after states/regional areas/even indigenous tribes or words. individual vessels will be named after president but only after they've died. This is not normal naming practices 😭

Folks, there is a reason why we’ve not made any new battleships since WWII: they’re big, expensive, slow moving targets. The navy didn’t request this. This is likely Trump’s idea. And rather than the navy stalling, Hegseth is going to force it into production asap. All this time, effort and money on battleships will adversely affect the navy’s capability and effectiveness in the future. China will benefit.
