Certifications tell people what you studied. Projects tell people what you can actually do. Here's a project roadmap mapped to where you are in your career, go build these, don't just read them. 𝗕𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗥 𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟 — 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁 → 𝗜𝗔𝗠 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁-𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗯: Create a role that can only read from one S3 bucket. Try to make it do more than that. Watch it fail. Fix it. Document every "Access Denied" and why it happened. → 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰/𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗩𝗣𝗖 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱: Stand up a VPC with a public and private subnet. Put an EC2 instance in each. Prove not assume that the private one can't be reached from the internet. → 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝘂𝗻𝘁: Perform five different actions in your account, then go find every single one of them in CloudTrail. Learn to read raw logs before you ever touch a dashboard that summarizes them for you. 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟 — 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗲 → 𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗗𝘂𝘁𝘆 + 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 + 𝗟𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗱𝗮 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼-𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Trigger a GuardDuty finding intentionally, route it through EventBridge, and have a Lambda function automatically isolate the compromised resource. This single project teaches detection, orchestration, and response in one build. → 𝗦𝟯 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Deliberately misconfigure a bucket policy, then use AWS Config or a custom script to detect and auto-remediate it. Recruiters love hearing "I built a detection-to-remediation pipeline," not "I read about S3 security." → 𝗞𝗠𝗦 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗿𝘆𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁: Take an existing environment (even a lab one) and map every data store, which are encrypted, with which key, and who can actually use that key. Most "secure" environments fail this exercise badly. 𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗗 𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟 — 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 → 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘇𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗪𝗦 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Build a structure with separate accounts for prod, dev, and security tooling, governed by Service Control Policies. This is exactly what real enterprises run, and almost no beginner ever touches it. → 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗮𝘀-𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: Write Terraform or CloudFormation templates with security baked in, enforced encryption, no public S3 by default, mandatory tagging, and add automated policy checks (like AWS Config rules or Checkov) that block non-compliant deployments before they ever go live. → 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 + 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Write a real incident response runbook for a compromised IAM credential, then simulate the incident end-to-end, detect, contain, eradicate, recover. This is the project that separates people who can talk about incident response from people who've actually run one. Here's the pattern across all three levels: every project moves you from "I know what this service does" to "I have built, broken, and fixed something with it." That's the difference employers actually feel in an interview. Pick one project from your current level. Build it this week. Don't wait until you feel ready, the project is what makes you ready. Which level are you at right now, and which project are you starting with? 👇 #AWS #CloudSecurity #Cybersecurity #CareerGrowth #InfoSec
