I do have to say tho, there 1000% are dealers that hide keys. That’s no lie, that’s no exaggeration or bs. I worked for a lot like that. Manager would ask for the keys for appraisal, then if the customer didn’t qualify or started talking about “thinking about it” then the manager would refuse to give me the keys back to return them until the customer exhausted EVERY option for co-sign even if they didn’t want to or they just forcefully walked into sales desk to chew out the management for their keys. I obviously left that lot.

I have worked at different dealerships, bought cars, helped people buy cars, have friends and a bunch of different dealerships, interviewed at too many dealerships and I have never not once seen someone do any of the crazy shit people say we do. If someone still has your keys the second you say “do you still have my keys” you instantly get them back. It’s true managers will come and try to get you to stay but it’s because they know you are buying a car from someone and they want to be the one you buy it from, so they come and try and make up or fill the gaps and make sure the sales person didn’t miss anything but if you wanna leave just leave. You are in no way shape or form held hostage at all and you can always 100% leave, yes we will try to earn your business but at the end of the day if you really don’t want the car then you are free to go.
