She said "how long has your blood pressure been elevated?" I said I did not know it was. Nobody had mentioned it. My doctor checks it at appointments but never flagged it. I assumed it was fine. She came around the counter. Looked at the number again. Then asked "are you on thyroid medication?" I said yes. Levothyroxine. 7 years. She said "I see this pattern constantly. Women on thyroid medication with blood pressure that creeps up slowly over years without anyone connecting it to their thyroid. It gets flagged eventually. A cardiologist gets involved. Blood pressure medication is prescribed. And nobody traces it back to why it started rising in the first place." She said "thyroid hormone influences your blood vessels. T3 helps keep the vessel walls elastic and relaxed. When T3 is low, the vessels can stiffen. Blood has to push harder through stiffer pipes. The pressure rises. Not from salt. Not from stress. Not from a heart problem. From a hormone that is not reaching the vessels in adequate amounts." She said "but here is the part nobody connects. Your pill delivers T4. The majority of T3 is converted in one organ. If that organ is compromised, T3 can drop. Your vessels stiffen. Your pressure climbs. Your doctor sees the number and sends you to a cardiologist. The cardiologist prescribes a blood pressure medication. Now you are on two pills. One for the thyroid. One for the blood pressure being caused by the thyroid. And nobody checks the organ that could resolve both." She fills prescriptions all day. She sees the pattern. Thyroid medication first. Blood pressure added a year later. Cholesterol the year after. The same bag getting heavier while nobody asks why. She said "your cholesterol might be connected too. Your liver uses T3 to clear cholesterol. Same organ converting the T3. Same failure. Same root. Your bag gets heavier because nobody addresses the organ that could lighten it." She said she had seen women address that organ and come back months later dropping prescriptions from their bag instead of adding them. Blood pressure normalizing. Cholesterol responding. Because the T3 that controls both was finally converting in an organ that was finally functioning. A free machine told me more in 30 seconds than 7 years of paid appointments. I addressed the organ. Month 1 the bloating eased. Month 2 the fog lifted. Month 3 I checked my blood pressure at the same machine. The number had dropped. Not dramatically. Noticeably. Something was reaching my vessels that had not been reaching them before. Month 5 my doctor noted the improvement without understanding why. Month 7 she said "your levels improved significantly. Let us discuss adjusting your medication." I went back to the pharmacy. Same machine. Same chair. The number was in normal range for the first time in years. The pharmacist saw me and smiled from behind the counter. She said "the bag is getting lighter isn't it." It was. Same woman. Fewer pills. Because the organ converting the hormone that both prescriptions were compensating for had finally healed.
