@sigmaderneuzeit: Joachim Peiper (1915–1976) was a high-ranking Waffen-SS commander during World War II and a convicted war criminal. Early in his career, he served as personal adjutant to SS chief Heinrich H. before taking command of armored units in the 1st SS Panzer Division on both the Eastern and Western fronts. Peiper is most infamous for leading Kampfgruppe Peiper during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944, where his troops executed 84 American prisoners of war in the Malmedy massacre alongside numerous Belgian civilians. Sentenced to death by a U.S. military tribunal in 1946, his sentence was later commuted, and he was released from prison in 1956. Peiper eventually moved to France under a pseudonym, where he died in 1976 after anti-fascist militants set fire to his house upon discovering his identity. #joachimpeiper #ww2
