If Claude keeps giving you answers that feel generic, the problem might not be your prompt. The bigger issue is often what you ask Claude to do around the prompt. Here are three Claude cheat codes I use constantly: 1. Make Claude interview you first. Instead of asking your question and hoping Claude has enough context, tell it: “Before you answer, ask me the 5 questions you need to give me an expert-level response.” This changes the interaction completely. Claude gathers context before it tries to solve the problem. It learns your goal, constraints, audience, priorities, and missing information first. This works especially well for strategy, writing, business decisions, marketing, planning, and complex work. 2. Give Claude a rule for the entire conversation. Try: “For everything I ask next, challenge weak assumptions, point out what I’m missing, and recommend a better approach when one exists.” This is one of my favorite ways to use Claude because I do not want an AI that agrees with every idea I have. I want it to pressure-test my thinking. A strong instruction at the beginning of the conversation changes every response after it. 3. Never stop at the first answer. After Claude gives you something good, say: “Now critique your answer. Identify the 3 weakest parts, then rewrite it using a stronger approach.” The first response is often useful. The second pass forces Claude to examine its own work, find weak spots, and produce a stronger version. The broader lesson is simple. Better Claude results do not always come from writing longer prompts. Sometimes you get better results by changing the process Claude follows before, during, and after it answers. Save these three prompts somewhere. You will use them constantly.
