There are people in your life who probably have no idea how much you genuinely love them. You assume they know. So you never actually say it. And I think as you get older, you start to realise how dangerous that assumption is. Because life changes incredibly quickly. Someone you spoke to yesterday can be gone tomorrow. A normal conversation can unknowingly become your last conversation. And suddenly all the things you thought you’d have time to say become the things you wish you had said. We spend so much of our lives delaying the things that actually matter. “I’ll visit them next week.” “I’ll call them later.” “I’ll apologise when things calm down.” “I’ll tell them next time I see them.” We behave as though there will always be a next time. There won’t be. One day somebody you love will leave this world. And one day, you will too. So while Allah has given you another day with the people you love, don’t allow pride, awkwardness or being “too busy” to stop you from appreciating them. Call your mum. Sit with your dad. Tell your wife you appreciate her. Tell your children you’re proud of them. Tell your brothers you love them for the sake of Allah. Give people their flowers whilst they’re still here to receive them. Because eventually memories are all we’re left with. And I’d rather feel slightly awkward telling someone how much they mean to me today... Than spend the rest of my life wishing I had.
